Executions by State Infographic
The death penalty is something that has been around since as early as Eleventh Century B.C.E. Since then, laws and practices have fluctuated in regards to the allowance of executions. After years of changes, the death penalty officially suspended in the United States in June of 1972. It remained this way for nearly five years until 1977. Several states have still remained against it and not executed anyone in the past 40 years; 16 to be exact (these states are faded out). This graphic is meant to show the trend of executions and the methods of doing so while serving as a comparison among states.
